B3 Cone Ballpoint Refill

The B3 is a stick refill with a cone-shaped tip. These refills can come in various lengths but usually vary between 120 and 140 mm. The BIC Cristal is the most obvious example of this refill type.
Japan Type Ballpoint Refill

Japan Type refills are stick refills of various lengths. The body of the refill is usually plastic, and it can be crimped to hold a spring in place on retractable pens. These refills usually tend to be at least 100 mm in length, but there are numerous exceptions.
C1 Ballpoint Refill

- Length: 117.5 mm (4.625″)
The C1 is a Cross Style ballpoint pen refill. The official ISO standard length is 117.4mm, but most of these refills actually measure out to 117.5mm, or exactly 4.625″. This refill is a long metal or plastic tube with a threaded, knurled knob on the back.
Cross Style C1 Ballpoint Refill

Official Cross C1 refills are 115.9 mm in length vs. the 117.4 mm ISO standard length. They are a metal or plastic body with a threaded, knurled knob at the back. Jaymo and Monteverde make substitutes for this refill.
S.T. Dupont Ballpoint C1 Style Refill

- Length: 112.8 mm (4.44″)
The S.T. Dupont Ballpoint C1 style refill is similar to a Cross standard ballpoint. However, it is a little shorter than the Cross standard. This is a metal tube refill with a threaded, knurled knob on the rear. Monteverde also makes a refill that matches this profile.
ACME European Length Ballpoint Refill
- Standard: Fits most pens that use standard ceramic rollerball (RB)
- Length: 111.1 mm (4.375″)
ACME Studios offers two ballpoint refills that will fit most pens that take a standard ceramic rollerball. These refills are actually Schmidt P900 or easyFLOW 9000 Parker style G2 refills with a collar near the tip and extra adapter cap on the rear to allow them to fit in standard rollerball pens. There are a couple other refill makers that ship some G2 refills with these adapter parts for the same purpose.
Waterman Ballpoint Refill

The Waterman ballpoint refill has a unique size and shape, and it will only fit their ballpoint pens. Jaymo, Monteverde, and other third party refill makers offer this refill as well.
Tiffany Purse Pen Ballpoint Refill

The Tiffany Purse Pen ballpoint refill fits some Tiffany and Anson pens.
A2 (formerly A3) Retractable Ballpoint Refill

Refills that match the ISO A2 ballpoint standard are available from numerous pen and refill makers. This standard was formerly known as the A3. These are metal or plastic body stick refills for retractable pens with a slim tip and spring shoulder (wing, crimp, pinch) that is 33.4 mm from the tip of the refill. The Schneider Express 75 and Schmidt 700 are examples of this standard.
X20 Retractable Ballpoint Refill

Refills that match the ISO X20 ballpoint standard are available from numerous pen and refill makers. These are metal or plastic body stick refills for retractable pens with a spring shoulder (wing, crimp, pinch) that is 27 mm from the tip of the refill. The tip on these refills is not as narrow as on the A2. The Schneider Express 775 is an example of this standard.
X20 Large Capacity Ballpoint Refill

Refills that match the ISO X20 large capacity ballpoint standard are metal or plastic body refills for retractable or non-retractable pens. They are the same length as a regular X20 but have a wider body for higher ink capacity. No spring shoulder is needed because the wide section of the body serves that purpose. The Starminen StarLiner and discontinued Schneider Express 740 are the only readily available examples of this refill standard.
G1 Ballpoint Refill

Refills that match the ISO G1 standard mostly replaced the X20 Large Capacity standard. They differ from the the X20 primarily in the tip area, which is thinner. The Schneider Express 225 is the benchmark example of this standard. A common refill that is essentially a G1 is the discontinued Paper Mate Lubriglide. This refill is fairly difficult to find for a reasonable price, but most G1 refills should fit these much older Paper Mate pens. A user of this site did recently report that two different G1 refills did not fit his Lubriglide pen.
Caran d’Ache Frosty 828 888 Ballpoint Refill

The Caran d’Ache Frosty 828 ballpoint refill will only fit their Frosty and Infinite ballpoint pens. This refill will not fit pens from any other brand.
Lamy M16 Ballpoint Refill

The Lamy M16 ballpoint refill only fits certain Lamy ballpoint pens. Jaymo and Monteverde make substitutes for this refill.
Platignum Slimline No. 9 Ballpoint Refill

The Platignum Slimline No.9 Ballpoint refill is a unique length metal stick refill that will only fit in some Platignum pens.
Cross Slim (Selectip) 8783 Ballpoint Refill

Cross slim Selectip pens are primarily designed for their rollerball refills, but they do make a ballpoint refill to fit these pens. The Slim Ballpoint 8783 refill is the compatible refill in ballpoint form. Jaymo and other third party makers offer substitutes for this refill.
e+m Holzprodukte Clutch 4058 Ballpoint Refill

This refill is a specialized version of a Parker style G2. The previous version was simply a G2 with a collar to make it fit inside the e+m Holzprodukte clutch pencils without moving and flexing too much. The new version is specifically designed to fit those pencils.
Montblanc Ballpoint Refill

The Montblanc ballpoint refill is a proprietary size and shape that will not fit pens by any other maker. Jaymo, Monteverde, and other third party refill makers offer compatible refills. NOTE: Most counterfeit Monthblanc ballpoint pens actually use a Parker style G2 refill that has fake Montblanc branding on it. Montblanc has never made a pen that will take a Parker style refill. You’ll need to use the refill below if you have one of these counterfeit pens. Since they are the same length, that adds to the confusion.
Parker Style G2 Ballpoint Refill

The Parker style standard G2 ballpoint refill is the most common pen refill on the market. Numerous pen and refill makers offer gel and ballpoint refills that match this standard. The official ISO standard length is 98.1 mm, but most of these refills measure out to 98.4 mm, or exactly 3 7/8″. However, they can vary from 98 mm to 99 mm due to manufacturing tolerances. These refills are sometimes referred to as “jumbo” or “giant.” Note that the G2 standard is different from the Pilot G2 Pen and its refills. Those refills are similar in size and shape to a standard rollerball. This is a great source of confusion in the pen refill market.

The Fisher Pressurized Mini Universal ballpoint refill is a metal body pressurized stick refill. This refill can be cut off to be 88.9 mm or 66.7 mm in length to fit shorter pens.
Sheaffer K Style Ballpoint Refill

The Sheaffer K Style ballpoint refill is a proprietary size and shape that only fits certain Sheaffer and Sailor ballpoint pens. The Sailor Standard ballpoint refill also has the same size and shape. The Sheaffer and Sailor refills should fit each other’s pens. Jaymo and Monteverde make substitutes for this refill.
Sheaffer Skrip Ballpoint Refill

The Sheaffer Skrip is a proprietary length and shape refill that will only fit older Sheaffer ballpoint pens. This refill is fairly difficult to find. It is usually only available on the second-hand market.
Cartier Slimline Ballpoint Refill

The Cartier Slimline is a proprietary length and shape refill that will only fit older Cartier Must, Panthere, and Vendome ballpoint pens. This refill is fairly difficult to find. It is usually only available on the second-hand market.
Waterman Titane CF Ballpoint Refill

The Waterman Titan / Titane CF is a proprietary length and shape refill that will only fit older Waterman ballpoint pens. This refill is fairly difficult to find. It is usually only available on the second-hand market.
Platinum Ballpoint Refill

Platinum makes a unique size and shape refill that will only fit some of their ballpoint pens. This refill comes in a plastic version, the BSP-100N, and a metal body version, the BSP-200B.
Fisher Space Pen Pressurized Ballpoint Refill

The Fisher Space Pen pressurized ballpoint refill will fit most Fisher Space Pens. Its profile allows it to fit in any pen that takes a Parker Style G2 with the use of an included adapter. The Schmidt MegaLine 4889, Delta 4889, and Diplomat Spacetec will also fit in any Fisher Space Pen.
Zebra F Ballpoint Refill

The Zebra F ballpoint refill fits some Zebra ballpoint pens. It has a similar profile to the Fisher Space Pen compatible refills, so it will fit in some other pens of that profile. The F refill comes in a plastic body version and an older metal body version.

Caran d’Ache Ecridor XS Ballpoint Refill

The Caran d’Ache Ecridor XS is a proprietary size and shape refill that will only fit in some Caran d’Ache pens.
Standard Multifunction D1 Ballpoint Refill

The standard multifunction refill is also known as the ISO D1 refill. It goes by various other names: D, D1, mini D, and mini D1. Officially the standard is 67 mm long, but most refills measure out at 66.7 mm, or 2 5/8″. However, these refills can measure anywhere between 66 mm and 67 mm. Nearly every pen and refill maker offers at least one refill that matches this standard. Some of these refills come with a threaded, knurled rear knob. Numerous Swarovski and other crystal pens take a D1 with the knob. Be sure to keep the original knob and/or metal sleeve to use with new refills.
Lamy M22 Mini Ballpoint Refill

The Lamy M22 mini ballpoint refill has a unique size and shape that will only fit some Lamy ballpoint pens and one pen from LOCLEN.
Troika Micro Ballpoint Refill

The Troika micro ballpoint refill is designed to fit in their keyring pens. This is the smallest ISO D standard refill. Theirs comes with a threaded, knurled rear knob, but that can be removed.
Cross Matrix 8572 Ballpoint Refill
